Ferial’s Friday Favorites // List 013: Newborn Essentials

 April 26, 2019

It was very wise advice that we received before Lu was born: Babies don’t need much.

BUT. There have been a handful of things that I’m so glad we’ve had. And because we’ve kept our baby daughter alive for 2 months now, I’d say we’re experts.

Here are a few of my absolute faves for mama and baby.

  • Earth Mama Nipple Butter: starting the list off strong and awkward! Breastfeeding has such a steep learning curve and there’s so much I didn’t (and still don’t) know! I wasn’t prepared for the discomfort, let me tell you. But this nipple butter has helped so much! It’s natural, it’s relieving, and it’s even great as lip balm. Highly recommend.

  • Burt’s Bees Diaper Rash Ointment: I pretty much love everything that Burt’s Bees makes and this diaper rash ointment is no different. Another natural product, and a little goes a long way, so one tube of it will last you a long time.

  • Sleepea 5-Second Swaddle: swaddling has been a game changer for us when it comes to Lucy’s sleep—mostly because she is a flailer and she will wake herself up with her own arms and legs. We’ve tried out several different kinds of swaddles (with Velcro, muslin, zippers, etc.) and this one is hands down our favorite. It’s lightweight, breathable, and stretchy, and the Velcro is on the inside of the sleep sack which means that (a) Lucy’s crazy arms cannot break out of it and (b) no Velcro gets caught on my shirt! It really is a 5-second swaddle and we’ve already purchased the next size up because we love it so much.

  • Ergobaby Carrier, Omni 360: this is a pricey item, but totally worth the investment in my opinion. This carrier goes from newborn to toddler, lasting you at least 2 years—no extra attachments or inserts needed. It’s an all in one baby carrier solution and it’s super comfortable and easy on my back. There’s a pouch attached that is perfectly sized for my phone and keys. I have loved taking Lu on walks in this thing!

  • Clementine Quilt: this is definitely not an essential, but just something that I really love. This quilt is BEAUTIFUL and such wonderful quality, I know it will last us forever. It’s thick and durable and such a vibrant, gorgeous pattern. We take it with us everywhere, as a car seat blankie, a play mat, extra warmth, rolled up as a nursing pillow, and even a photo prop! We have the matching muslin swaddle also and I can’t say enough about the great quality and beautiful design!

There you have it! Just a few things that we are loving for this newborn stage. Do you have any baby essentials that you can’t do without? I’d love to hear about them!
