Is it just me, or has January 2017 just zipped by?
I always tell myself, “After the holidays, things will slow down.” I think you know where I’m going with this.
They never do! The things never slow down!
I’m slowly learning that my time is what I make it.
If I say yes to all the things I will surely end up being tired, grumpy, and burnt out. I wrote all about this last summer, and I am still learning and discovering the wisdom of when to say YES and when to say NO.
I was recently chatting with a dear friend and she was telling me about how she and her family are having “an intentionally slow January.” Does that sound just marvelous to anyone else?
Slowing down is a choice. Simple is a choice. Harried, busy, and burnt out are also choices. Intentionally slow means battling the FOMO and just stopping for a little while. Turning down invitations. Taking less trips. Doing less things. A lot of the time, these are hard decisions for me to make.
You know those times when you are reading a book and you get to the bottom of a page and realize that you weren’t paying attention to what you were reading? I don’t want my life to be like that. I don’t want to move so fast through the moments that I miss the paragraph that I am currently living. Unlike a book, there’s no option to re-read those moments.
My 2017 started fast and busy, and great! But, I’m ready for some intentional slow. Look out, February.
