Friday Ferial Faves // List 006
Welcome to Ferial’s Favorites on Fridays! A little corner of the inter-webs for me to spotlight a few things that I’m loving. I’ve always enjoyed recommending products, podcasts, music, tools, and tips, so here’s a place for me to do it regularly. ☺️
Today’s list of favorites includes: a fantastic Bay Area coffee shop, Shauna Niequist’s most recent book, the Mint budgeting app, and the newest All Sons & Daughters album!
- Coffee Shop: In the last 2 or 3 years or so I have developed a strong love of coffee, which is super strange to the friends who knew before then because I seriously used to detest the stuff. I’ve now come to my senses and appreciate the good bean juice for the delicacy that it is, but only when it’s good. This place makes good coffee. And yes, they’re just called Coffee Shop. I can’t recommend highly enough their signature Minted Iced Cold Brew, and for our purist pals, their Zolo roast pour over is wonderful. Bay Area friends, they have two locations, Walnut Creek and Lafayette, put them on your list!
- Present Over Perfect: I just finished up this recent of Shauna Niequist’s books and I can honestly say that it was life changing. I love all of her work, but this particular book resonates so much with where I am right now. The very tag line of the book preaches to me: “Leaving Behind Frantic for a Simpler, More Soulful Way of Living.” I won’t list out my favorite quotes or passages from the book because I basically highlighted the whole thing, but I will say that if I can recommend any book right now (especially for this time of the year!) read this one. Go. Now.
- Mint Budgeting App: I have sung the praises of this app for many years now and will forevermore continue. Budgeting is hard for me, for my husband and I. The Mint app makes it much easier. If the Mint app could stop me from spending money it would be perfect, but it does everything else I need it to: tracks all my purchases, allows me to create custom budgets, spending categories, and saving goals, and gives me an at a glance, accurate-to-the-minute look at where I am in this month’s budget. And for those friends of mine that worry about inputting secure, financial information into an app: Mint is run by the same people who do TurboTax and Quicken and they have the highest security and encryption standards. PS: it's not only an app, they have a great web interface, too!
- Poets & Saints: If you listen much to Christian worship music you will probably be well familiar with All Sons & Daughters. I have loved their music for several years now; I find that they are able to write songs that are deeply spiritually, musically excellent, and also raw and practical and full of real life. Their newest album, Poets & Saints, does not disappoint. I had the privilege of attending a worship night in Sacramento recently where they led us through most of this new album and it was a beautiful and worshipful experience. Go listen to this album, if anything for their perfect harmonies, but even moreso to connect with and praise our incredible God.
That’s it for this week’s favorites! Stay tuned for more of Ferial’s faves next week. 😆
