Monday Meditation: Conscious Reciprocal Love

Monday Meditation: Conscious Reciprocal Love

It is necessary for us to recognize that there is an intelligent mysticism in the life of faith . . . of living union and communion with the exalted and ever- present Redeemer. . . . He communes with his people and his people commune with him in conscious reciprocal love. . . . The life of true faith cannot be that of cold metallic assent. It must have the passion and warmth of love and communion because communion with God is the crown and apex of true religion.
— John Murray, as quoted in Timothy Keller's book: Prayer

My small group started reading Tim Keller's Prayer this past week and I can already tell that it's going to be a life changing book. The above quote is a quote of a quote (quote-ception?) that I want to be meditating on this week.

Conscious, reciprocal love. On-purpose, going-both-ways love. God did not create us to be robots. He created us with the opportunity to commune with Him, to be in relationship. How will I choose to tend to my relationship with God this week? I want to spend this week purposefully loving God better.

What are you meditating on this week?
